When you can join us
As teaching is an ongoing program, you are welcome to join us any date of the year that is suitable for you. We ask you to apply online at least a couple of days ahead of your program start date.

Classes
There are 26 children in our family and we have divided them into two groups for teaching. The first group is for children at 3rd grade age and below, and the second group is for ages 4th grade and above.

Subjects you can teach and curriculum
Our fundamental goal is to teach the children English language skills appropriate for their grade level through our basic and secondary courses, including math and science. They will receive instruction in additional courses as well, as we believe in offering a wide range of curriculum choices.

We place an emphasis on the children learning English because it is an international language, as well as a language recognized throughout Nepal. Having a solid foundation in English is useful for furthering educational opportunities and can help the children successfully obtain work in the future.

Preparing for class
You must dress in conservative, appropriate attire while with the children. Large tattoos should be covered and body piercings should not be visible (except for in ear lobes or nose). Come prepared to teach. Lesson plans should be made prior to teaching classes.

Your qualifications
There is no such thing as being overqualified. Just come with a willing heart and mind.

What hours volunteers can expect to work

3:30 pm to 7:00 pm are the usual hours.
3:00 pm to 7:00 pm in Summer.
More hours may be scheduled over holidays.

Teaching assistance
Normally one volunteer at a time is assigned to teach one group of children. If required, we will assign one Nepali speaking guide to assist you for ease of teaching if the volunteer is a non-Nepali language speaker.

Why we prefer international volunteers

Volunteers from across the world are a very effective source of inspiration for our kids to further their education. Our children are excited to talk to and learn from teachers that come from localities other than their own.

Volunteer's role
It has been our experience that our children get excited and want to be close to the volunteers. As such, it is not uncommon to see them talking to each other and making a noise sometimes. As a teacher, you must be tolerant and cannot show any threatening or angry behavior towards the children. All we expect from volunteers is love and compassion towards the children and the organization.
